- We have a six-week spring program for ages 7-18 held on Thursday afternoons from 4:30 pm- 6pm to introduce cycling basics. Session I begins March 26 and runs through April 29. To register for these fun instructional sessions, please email lesli@velosportsperformancecenter.com or call Lesli Meadows at 828-777-2523.
- During the spring introduction our focus will be on safety, skills development, encouragement and fun.
We will teach cycling fundamentals in the traffic-free environment of the “Mellowdrome” (the old car race track) at Carrier Park. Depending on interest, we may also include instruction for mountain biking at Bent Creek Experimental Forest during the summer.
- We have loaner bikes, shoes, helmets and equipment available--should you not have these materials but still desire to participate.
- We are the parent organization of the Asheville Junior Development Racing Teams. These teams promote junior bicycle racing focusing on developing a group that are successful young people as well as successful cyclists.
Race Teams
- We have several race teams for those that want to get involved in racing. In recent years we’ve sent riders to regional and national championships. Our team includes multiple state champions.
Our Coaches
- We have many local professional cyclists among our volunteers, as well as coaches and law enforcement officers. All those working with children receive background checks and training. Being role models is something adults involved with our program take very seriously. We are counselors, mentors, advisors, life teachers, examples, and disciplinarians when necessary. Above all, we care about our future generation.
Our co-founders and lead coaches are Joe Coddington and Lesli Meadows. Assistant coaches include Andy Applegate, Laura Bowles, Grant Gosch and Sarah Alholm.
